TEKS Watch Update

* The SBOE met on November 18 to discuss the second draft of the TEKS.

* State Rep. Norma Chávez (D-El Paso) and 44 Hispanic members of the House called for improved coverage of Hispanics.

* Marginal comments within the drafts of the US history (11th grade) TEKS indicated that one committee member often disagreed with the whole; now that member has identified himself and accused the rest of the committee with “hijacking” the review process.

RECOMMENDATION: The readers’ comments posted with these articles are quite interesting.

* Public hearings about the TEKS revisions will begin on January 13, 2010
