New Teacher Education Assistant and Fall 2016 Hours

The Center for History Teaching Learning is pleased to announce our new Teacher Education Assistant and operating hours for the fall of 2016.

Kathryn Guerra is a student in the History Department’s M.A. program. She is also certified to teach history in the state of Texas and ready to answer questions from those currently in the process of becoming certified.

You can visit her in the Center’s Resource Room during the hours listed below to check out a textbook, prepare for qualifying or certification exams, get advice, or peruse our many resources for teaching history at all levels.

Holiday Resource Room Hours

The CHTL Resource Room will be open on Tuesday December 13th and Wednesday December 14th from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm if you need to use any of our resources or pick up a review hours slip. There are qualifying exams scheduled for December 21st and 22nd. The Resource Room will not be open again until the spring semester so please make plans now to study or pick up a slip. If you have any questions, please email Kelley at kmakins@miners.utep.edu.

Review Hours

If you will be needing a review hours slip for an upcoming Social Studies Content or PPR Exam, please  make plans to pick one up soon. If you cannot make it when the CHTL Resource Room is open or when Dr. Erekson is holding office hours, please make alternative plans with us. Please do not wait until the last minute and be in a panic because you need a review hours slip.

CHTL Resource Room Hours:

Monday 1:00-5:00

Tuesday 4:30-6:30

Wednesday 1:30-5:00

Thursday 1:00-3:30

Friday By appointment only

 

Dr. Erekson’s Office Hours:

Monday and Wednesday 12:00-1:20

 

If you need a slip and are unable to come during the above hours, please email Kelley as soon as possible at kmakins@miners.utep.edu. If I am in the office from December 12th through January 13th, I will post those hours here.

The CHTL Resource Room will have different hours for the week of Thanksgiving. If you need a review hours slip or you need to study for the exam, please come during these office hours:

Center Releases Three New Resources for Future Teachers

Center Releases Three New Resources for Future Teachers

El Paso, Texas – The Center for History Teaching & Learning is pleased to announce three new resources designed to help prospective history and social studies teachers.

1.       “Facts from the Field” succinctly summarizes the job prospects in secondary education and clearly outlines clearly the best way to succeed in UTEP’s teacher education program.

2.       A new advising website puts prospective teachers in touch with all of the relevant information, helpful advisors, and key resources necessary to complete coursework and certification exams.

3.       Finally, a new listserv allows anyone to sign up for updates on program requirements, information, and assistance.

Alumni of the program who received a sneak preview of the resources attest to their usefulness. “The links that are included are awesome and full of information,” said Israel Delgado. Gerardo Luna added, “I wish they had something like this when I first started at UTEP because the whole process was very confusing.”

The Center for History Teaching & Learning is a division of UTEP’s History Department created to promote scholarly teaching among department faculty, support teacher education among our students, and provide outreach and professional development opportunities for area social studies teachers.
